Iquique - Challakrolo

100 km inland from the city of Iquique, in the heart of the Tamarugal desert, Challakrolo awaits to offer you all the comforts of its tourist center. With an ecological and self-sustaining proposal, it is entirely powered by solar energy, and hot water is produced by solar thermal heaters. Water is extracted from the subsoil of the Tamarugal desert itself. Its accommodations are noteworthy, reflecting an architectural pattern salvaged from the dwellings of the ancient inhabitants of the local desert. They are called "putukus": made of salt, circular, and with very thick walls that naturally moderate the desert climate within. This place is typically cold at night and warm during the day. Staying at Challakrolo is not only about comfort and contact with Iquique's nature, but it also signifies a cultural and historical experience!
