Iquique - Challakrolo

100 km inland from the city of Iquique, in the center of the Tamarugal desert, Challakrolo awaits you to provide all the amenities of its tourist center. With an ecological and self-sustaining proposal, it is completely powered by solar energy, and the hot water comes from its solar thermal collectors. The water is extracted from the subsoil of the Tamarugal desert itself. Its accommodations stand out, reflecting an architectural pattern rescued from the dwellings of the ancient inhabitants of the desert in the area. They are called “putukus”: they are made of salt, circular, and with very thick walls that naturally moderate the desert climate inside, which is normally cold at night and warm during the day. Staying at Challakrolo is not only about comfort and contact with the nature of Iquique, but also an cultural and historical experience! The place has 9 accommodations, to host a total of 45 people! Additionally, it offers 2 campsites for Motorhomes or recreational vehicles, adding 20 more people. This destination is PET-FRIENDLY!
